In the 1970s, the Frisian Gjald Pilat started refurbishing and selling antiques, which were in high demand at the time. Nevertheless, he gradually shifted his interest to designing his own furniture. His sense of design and good business led to a true ‘Famylje collection’ and more and more outlets. At the turn of the century, Pilat decided to produce its furniture by local artisans in the wooded area of Bosnia, making Pilat & Pilat to this day manufacture oak, walnut and elm furniture that is as contemporary as it is rooted in the tradition of woodworking.
All Pilat & Pilat models are tailor-made, have their own character and are named after a family member. That is why it is a good thing that Gjald comes from a family of no fewer than thirteen children. More than dozens of designs now ‘populate’ the Famylje collection of chairs, tables and cabinets, which you can view in our showroom in Amstelveen.
You are welcome!
